CONSUMER PROTECTION:

The Consumer Protection Act, 1986 and the Rules 1987 had become operational in Nagaland since 1992-93 but its implementation could not be taken up in right earnest by the State Govt. due to paucity of fund resource and delay in the establishment of Administrative set-up. It was only in August 1995 that the subject concerning Consumer Protection was transferred from the Food & Civil Supplies Department and clubbed together with Legal Metrology (formerly known as weight & measures) under the Administrative control of Commissioner & Secretary Food & Civil Supplies and Legal Metrology. Immediately after taking up the new assignment the Department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection had started taking up the following initiatives under the provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, 1968 and the rules made under it.
